What's my Towing Capacity?
Towing capacity for the 2 Series varies by model, topping out at a maximum braked rating of 1,500kg. To confirm the rating of your specific vehicle, please check the VIN plate, which is usually in one of the door frames.
Which Towbar is best for my BMW 2 Series?
The fixed flange towbar features a flat mounting plate where the towball is bolted, allowing additional accessories such as a bumper protector plate or bolt-on cycle carrier to be fitted between the flange and towball. Its robust design makes it ideal for frequent towing and for use with trailers, caravans however, for ALKO stabilisers an ALKO towball would be required. As the towbar is permanently attached, this may interfere with parking sensors on some vehicles.
The fixed swan neck towbar offers a sleeker, more integrated appearance compared to the flange design. The towball is built into a single curved “swan neck” piece, reducing bulk and maintaining a cleaner look on the rear of the vehicle. It is compatible with ALKO stabilisers, though it cannot accommodate additional bolt-on accessories, its streamlined profile helps avoid interference with parking sensors and there is less to potentially be detected due to the more compact design.
A detachable swan neck towbar combines style and practicality, featuring the same smooth, curved design as the fixed version but with a removable neck section. When not in use, the neck can be easily detached, leaving only a discreet mounting point helping to preserve the vehicle’s appearance and avoid potential interference with parking sensors.
Will it need a bumper cut?
The 2 Series requires a non-visible bumper cut. Most models either come with a pre-cut bumper, or a pre marked area for the cut to the underside of the bumper. This keeps impact on the vehicle to a minimum and allows the detachable swan neck to be invisible whilst the neck is detached.
