More about towing with a VW Touareg
The Dynamic all-wheel steering allows the driver total control when cornering on country roads or parking on city streets. The rear wheels steer along with the front wheels, giving the Touareg a smaller turning circle, an increase in driving stability and ultimately allowing the driver to journey more dynamically with increased agility.
The Touareg uses air suspension to provide the driver with literally the highest level of driving comfort, the suspension adapts the height of the car depending on the terrain and provides the driver with the options of ‘Comfort’, ‘Normal’ or ‘Sport’ driving profiles to provide the maximum control of the drive. The car can also be raised to 258mm ground clearance or lowered to make loading and unloading easier.
The Volkswagen Driver Assist has been created to take the hard work out of driving, with technologies such as power-assisted steering and cruise control. Whether it's long motorway driving or helping to guide through a difficult parking manoeuvre the driver-assist technology is the perfect driving partner during every experience.
Manoeuvring with a trailer can become a test of patience, the trailer assist technology takes care of the steering on the driver’s behalf. The driver simply selects the reverse gear, press the parking aid button, and use the mirror adjustment switch to set the direction in which the trailer should be steered.
The Sign Assist technology gives the driver all the traffic sign information required to drive safely. A camera in the mirror base records important traffic signs such as speed limits and no overtaking signs then informs the driver, so they aren’t missed. The traffic signs are displayed on both the multifunction display and the navigation system unit display. The Sign Assist helps the driver to comply with regulations and drive safely, reducing the probability of the driver missing speed limits or no overtaking signs.
What's the Towing Capacity of the VW Touareg?
The Volkswagen Touareg has a maximum towing capacity of 3,500KG, this generous weight allows its driver to pick and choose between a whole host of towing options. Whether it’s towing a large family caravan or hitching up with bikes for a weekend adventure, the Volkswagen Touareg is the perfect SUV to tow with.
Which Towbar is best for my Touareg?
There are two different styles of towbars available for the Volkswagen Touareg, the fixed flange towbar and the detachable swan neck towbar. The fixed flange towbar is a permanent towbar that stays fitted to the chassis of the vehicle even after towing has been completed. The fixed flange towbar is the only style of towbar that can tow any style of cycle carrier. The flange-style towbar is equipped with a plate at the rear of the towbar which allows for towing accessories to bolt on simultaneously to towing with the towball.
The detachable swan neck towbar is the only style of towbar that can be removed at the end of towing, once the towbar neck has been removed the electric socket will flip up underneath the chassis leaving the towbar practically invisible. The detachable swan neck towbar is compatible with all clamp-on styles of cycle carriers, trailers and caravans. The detachable swan neck towbar is also ALKO compatible, meaning no ALKO towball is required when towing an ALKO stabiliser.
Will my VW Touareg need a bumper cut?
The Volkswagen Touareg requires a small invisible bumper cut to be made the vehicles undertray when fitting a towbar to its chassis. The small cut will only be visible if physically looking underneath the car at the undertray. If your Touareg has been modified then this could result in a larger incision being made, however our highly skilled towbar engineers will discuss all modifications prior to starting the fitment.
