More about the Volkswagen Polo
The new VW Polo has many safety features that are beneficial to those looking to tow, these include Driver Alert System which will give the driver an early warning of when they should take a break on long motorway journeys, ultimately making your journey safer and more enjoyable.
Another useful feature is Trailer Assist manoeuvring system which will help with the difficult task of reversing a trailer or caravan.
What's my Towing Capacity?
The VW Polo has a towing capacity that supports up to 1200kg which would enable you to tow a cycle carrier, trailer or even a lightweight caravan. This capacity could vary between models, therefore it is always recommended to check your vehicle’s VIN plate, which can usually be found on one of the door pillars, this will give you the accurate towing capacity for your specific VW Polo.
Which Towbar is best for my Volkswagen Polo?
There are three towbar styles available for fitment to the VW Polo, these are the Fixed Flange, Fixed Swan Neck and Detachable Swan Neck towbars. All of these towbars are a wonderful addition to your Polo, each towbar has its’ own benefits and strengths, depending upon your needs.
The Fixed Flange Towbar is the cheapest of the three available and is a towbar that would be permanently attached to your vehicle, meaning it cannot be removed when not in use. The unique feature of the Fixed Flange is that it is fitted with a plate which enables you to use bolt-on style accessories such as a bolt-on cycle carrier while keeping the towball itself free for hitching up your caravan for example.
The Fixed Swan Neck towbar is another permanently fixed towbar but still extremely versatile and is readily compatible with ALKO Stabilisers and also fits clamp-on style cycle carriers. The Fixed Swan Neck is thin and sleek in design, meaning it is less likely to be detected by your parking sensors, should your vehicle have these, although this cannot be guaranteed with the towbar being permanently fixed.
The Detachable Swan Neck towbar is exactly the same in design as the Fixed Swan Neck, however, the neck of the towbar is detachable, meaning that you can remove the towbar neck when not towing. If you would prefer your Polo to look untouched when not towing, the detachable swan neck is the perfect choice as the electrical plate will also fold up underneath the bumper, removing all visible evidence of a towbar when not in use. The Detachable Swan Neck towbar is also compatible with all clamp-on style cycle carriers, trailers and caravans, and is also compatible with ALKO stabilisers. The detachable feature of this towbar also guarantees that your parking sensors will not be affected when you are not towing.
Will my Polo need a bumper cut?
