More about the VW Golf
The Golfs Driver Assistance Systems offer a helping hand through the trickiest of driving situations. The wide range of systems includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Park Assist and Travel Assist. Park Assist tells the driver if a space is large enough for the vehicle and will proceed to park on behalf of the driver. The Travel Assist system allows the vehicle to not only stay in its lane but will also automate acceleration and braking, striving to make driving in heavy traffic less tiring.
Immediately when getting behind the wheel, the Volkswagen golf offers the wow factor with its digital cockpit. All the car's settings are clearly and neatly displayed on the Discover Systems 10-inch screen. From the touch of the screen, the driver can adjust their driving position, air conditioning, radio, navigation and driver assistance systems.
Another clever feature in the Golf 8 is the voice activation technology; the system allows the driver to select between radio stations, scroll through your address book or change course on your Sat-Nav all by using their voice.
What's my Towing Capacity?
The Golf hatchback has a towing capacity of around 1500KG; this is the perfect capacity for bike carriers, trailers or even a medium-sized caravan. To find an accurate towing capacity for your vehicle, please refer to your vehicle's VIN plate.
Which Towbar is best for my Volkswagen Golf?
There are three styles of towbars available for the Volkswagen Golf hatchback, a fixed swan neck towbar, a fixed flange towbar and a detachable swan neck towbar.
The fixed flange towbar is a permanent towbar that stays attached to the vehicle's chassis even once towing has been completed. The fixed flange towbar is the only Towbar that allows for all styles of cycle carriers to be towed. The flange style towbar can tow using the towball or the plate at the back of the Towbar. All styles of trailers and caravans can also tow on a fixed flange towbar. If using an ALKO style stabiliser, then an ALKO towball must be purchased before towing.
A fixed swan neck towbar is another style of permanent Towbar; again, this is fixed to the vehicle's chassis and cannot be removed at the end of towing. The fixed swan neck is much thinner in design compared to the fixed flange towbar and is often chosen by drivers with rear parking sensors on their Volkswagen Golf. The thin design allows for more clearance between the rear sensors and the Towbar. The fixed swan neck towbar is compatible with all styles of clamp on towbars, trailers and caravans. If you are towing an ALKO stabiliser, there is no need to purchase the ALKO towball, as the swan neck style towbars are all ALKO compatible.
The detachable swan neck towbar is the only style of Towbar that can be removed once towing has been completed. The neck on the detachable swan neck can easily be removed using a twist and push method; once the towbar neck has been removed, the towbar housing appears practically invisible, leaving the vehicle to return to its original aesthetics. The detachable swan neck towbar is compatible with all clamps on style cycle carriers, trailers and caravans. Again, there is no requirement for an ALKO towball when using an ALKO stabiliser.
Will it need a bumper cut?
There is no need for a bumper cut when fitting any of the three styles of towbars to the Volkswagen Golf. However, the bumper will be removed during fitment and refitted once the towbar installation is complete. If your Volkswagen golf has been modified, there may be a requirement for a bumper cut; please get in touch with our sales team if you require further information on all bumper modifications.
