More about the Volkswagen California
With the new Volkswagen California possessing a 2.0-litre engine producing either 150hp or 199hp, there is plenty of power to get up to cruising speed even whilst towing a trailer behind the campervan. Later models come equipped with Volkswagen’s ‘Crosswind Assist’ as part of the vehicle’s Electronic Stabilisation System, which helps stabilise the vehicle when travelling above 50mph when encountering strong crosswinds, providing a more confident and assured experience whilst towing.
What's my Towing Capacity?
The Volkswagen California is rated up to a maximum braked towing capacity of 2,500kg, allowing it to tow a variety of trailers and even caravans.
Which Towbar is best for my Volkswagen California?
A fixed flange towbar is permanently attached to the vehicle and allows various accessories such as bumper protector plates and a ball and pin towball to be fitted. An Alko towball is required to tow caravans with an alko stabiliser. A fixed towbar may be detected by parking sensors, though this is less likely on larger vehicles such as the California.
The detachable swan neck towbar features a neck which can be removed from the vehicle when the towbar is not in use. This helps to avoid interference with parking sensors and minimises the impact of the towbar on the vehicle’s aesthetics. The swan neck is also compatible with alko stabilisers, simply requiring the paint removed from the towball.
Will it need a bumper cut?
No bumper cut is required for the Volkswagen California, meaning that whilst the neck is detached and the electrics are pivoted up behind the bumper, there is virtually no evidence a towbar has been fitted to the vehicle.
