More about the VW Passat
Jam-packed with safety features, the Passat allows you and your passengers to feel at ease during every car ride you make. The Driver Assistance technology includes Park Assist, Front Assist and Proactive Passenger Protection System.
All these features work cleverly to protect everyone in the vehicle; The Park Assist technology helps you in a tight spot by using its parking sensors to help you park and manoeuvre whilst always keeping control of the car. Front Assist is always on the lookout; by monitoring pedestrians, the feature will alert you whenever there are pedestrians on the road and automatically brake if you do not react.
Finally, the Proactive Passenger System automatically takes measures to protect your passengers when a critical situation is detected.
What’s the Towing Capacity of the Volkswagen Passat?
The Volkswagen Passat’s towing capacity is approximately 1800KG, although this can vary depending on the model. To determine an accurate towing weight, please refer to the vehicle's VIN plate, which can be located either under the bonnet or on the passenger side door sill.
Which Towbar is best for my VW Passat?
Most models of the Volkswagen Passat have the fixed flange, fixed swan neck and detachable swan neck towbar available. The Volkswagen Passat All track cannot have a fixed flange towbar installed due to the bumper style.
If your Passat is equipped with parking sensors, we would opt for the detachable Towbar as standard advice, as this can be removed once towing has been completed. This allows the vehicle to return to standard, leaving nothing for the parking sensors to pick up on the bumper when in reverse.
If removing a towbar isn’t appealing to you, then the fixed swan neck is a great option; the thinner style neck means that the parking sensors are less likely to be affected by the Towbar on your bumper. The fixed swan neck towbar has all the benefits of the detachable Towbar; however, it is permanently fixed on the bumper. Please be mindful that due to the position of the Towbar, there is a chance that the Towbar may affect parking sensors when in reverse.
The fixed flange towbar is a fantastic option for those who wish to accessorise their Towbar, using the backing plate on the fixed flange towbar. Although due to the chunkier design of the fixed flange towbar, there is a chance that the parking sensors may be affected when putting the vehicle in reverse.
Will it need a bumper cut?
A bumper cut will be required to have a towbar fitted to the Volkswagen Passat; however, this cut is non-visible. The modification will be made to the vehicle’s undertray; therefore, it would be unnoticeable unless you look underneath the car. However, please be aware that any modified bumpers may have an alternative cut required; if you are unsure of your bumper style, don’t hesitate to contact our office for further assistance.
