More about the Volkswagen Arteon
The 2.0 TDI 150 model will appeal mostly to those who intend to tow due to its gutsy, mid-range poke. Space-wise, the Volkswagen Arteon really comes up trumps in comparison to its rivals, with a vast amount of rear leg room and boot space that reportedly holds up to 8 carry-on suitcases, it compares more closely to that of a saloon than the coupé it is, making fitting the family’s holiday luggage in a breeze.
The stability of the Arteon would make it a very sensible choice for a tow car and has been described as unperturbable and allows you to execute manoeuvres and battle potential crosswinds, whilst towing, with ease.
What's my Towing Capacity?
The Volkswagen Arteon has a towing capacity of 1,600 – 2,200kg.
This generous capacity allows you to tow anything from a cycle carrier to most caravans. Due to the differing models of the Arteon, we would always recommend that you refer to the vehicle’s VIN plate to determine the accurate towing capacity for your vehicle.
Which Towbar is best for my Volkswagen Arteon?
The Volkswagen Arteon has three different styles of towbar available for fitment; a fixed flange towbar; a fixed swan neck towbar and a detachable swan neck towbar.
The fixed flange towbar is permanently fixed to the vehicle and cannot be removed when not in use. Aesthetically it is short and chunky making it more compact. The fixed flange is the only towbar style compatible with all types of cycle carriers as these towbars are fitted with a plate that allows for bolt-on accessories. The fixed flange, however, is not compatible with an ALKO stabiliser and an ALKO towball would be required.
The fixed swan neck is another permanently fixed towbar that cannot be removed when not in use, however, the swan neck style is much thinner than the fixed flange making it less likely to interfere with the parking sensors. The fixed swan neck is compatible with ALKO stabilisers, so no ALKO towball would be necessary.
The fixed swan neck towbar is also compatible with all clamp-on style cycle carriers, caravans and trailers, making it a very versatile choice.
The detachable swan neck is the only removable towbar we offer at Towbar Express and when not in use, can be easily detached from your vehicle and the electrical plate folded up underneath the bumper, therefore, removing any chance of the towbar being detected by your rear parking sensors when the towbar is not in use. Similarly to the fixed swan neck, the detachable swan neck is also compatible with all clamp-on style cycle carriers, caravans and trailers and ALKO stabilisers.
Will it need a bumper cut?
When fitting a towbar to the Volkswagen Arteon, the bumper would be removed for the duration of the fitment and also, a non-visible bumper cut would be required for all towbars compatible with the Arteon. This cut to the bumper would be located on the vehicle’s undertray.
