More about towing with a Seat Leon
When taking the Leon for a spin, the driver will always feel confident with every decision they make. The safety systems on hand allow the driver to focus on the road ahead whilst scanning for potential hazards and guiding the driver through all their manoeuvres.
With a combination of driver assistance systems, the Leon provides safety from the moment you pull off your drive, through each bend on the road and, if needed, in an emergency.
The Blind Spot Detection detects any cars, pedestrians, or animals outside your field of vision. It has a range of 70m, and combined with Exit Assist; the driver can avoid potential collisions with other vehicles when opening the driver or passenger doors.
Seat recently collaborated with CALM to create the SeatxCalm- The Language of listening. They created a series of short films that show you how to reach out and talk about the stuff that really matters with someone you care about; it's the perfect listen when driving home, waiting for your friend or even when you're on your way to the match. What’s the Towing Capacity of the Seat Leon?
The Seat Leon has an approximate towing weight of around 1800KG; this is the perfect amount for towing a trailer, a cycle carrier or even a small caravan. For an accurate towing weight for your Seat Leon, please refer to the VIN plate located under the bonnet or on the passenger door sill.
Which Towbar is best for my Seat Leon?
When picking a towbar for your Seat Leon, there is ample choice, with a fixed flange towbar, a fixed swan neck towbar, and even a detachable swan neck towbar. The fixed flange towbar is the only permanent Towbar with a plate fitted to the back of the Towbar. This plate allows for towing accessories to be bolted on to be used simultaneously to towing. Due to the design of the fixed flange towbar, its chunkiness may mean parking sensors detect the Towbar when you are in reverse. The fixed flange towbar is compatible with all styles of cycle carriers, trailers, and caravans. However, if you are towing something with an ALKO towball, then an ALKO towball must be fitted beforehand.
The fixed swan neck towbar is another style of fixed towbars; this cannot be removed after towing. As the swan neck has a thin design, it may not be detected by parking sensors when in reverse It is a better option for a Leon fitted with parking sensors than a fixed flange towbar. The fixed swan neck towbar is compatible with all clamp-on style cycle carriers, trailers, and caravans. No ALKO towball is required when towing with an ALKO stabiliser.
The detachable swan neck towbar is the only removable type of Towbar we offer; the towbar neck can be removed using a twist and lock method. Once the towbar neck has been removed, the electrics will flip up underneath the bonnet, leaving the remaining Towbar practically invisible. This style of Towbar is the perfect option for Leons with reverse sensors, as once the towbar neck is removed, the parking sensors will work as intended when in reverse. The detachable swan neck towbar is compatible with all clamp-on style cycle carriers, trailers and caravans. No ALKO ball is required when towing with an ALKO stabiliser.
Will it need a bumper cut?
When fitting any of the three styles of Towbar to the Seat Leon, a small bumper cut would be made to the vehicle's bumper. The cut would be located on the vehicle's undertray, meaning it wouldn't be visible unless you are looking at it directly. Please be aware that if your Leons bumper is not standard or if it has been modified in any way, there may be a larger bumper cut required. If you are unsure if this applies to your car, please contact our qualified sales team, who will assist you further.
