What's my Towing Capacity?
he Seat Alhambra has an estimated towing capacity of 2,200KG, this generous capacity will allow the driver to tow anything from a cycle carrier, or trailer to a caravan. before deciding on what you would like to tow it is extremely important to check the weights of what you are towing as overloading your towbar can result in damage to the vehicle or the towbar becoming unhitched and potentially causing a road traffic accident. To find an accurate towing capacity for your Seat Alhambra please refer to your vehicle's VIN plate.
Which Towbar is best for my Seat Alhambra?
There are three different styles of towbars available for the Seat Alhambra, the fixed swan neck, the fixed flange and the detachable swan neck towbar.
The fixed flange towbar is a permanent towbar that cannot be removed from the chassis of the vehicle once it has been attached. The fixed flange towbar is the only towbar that is fitted with a plate on its rear, the plate allows drivers to attach towing accessories like a bolt-on cycle carrier or a bumper protector plate. The plate enables the driver to use these accessories whilst leaving the towball free to tow with. The fixed flange towbar is the only towbar that can use bolt-on cycle carriers, but it is also compatible with clamp-on cycle carriers, trailers, and caravans. If you are towing a caravan with an ALKO stabiliser, then an ALKO towball must be fitted before towing.
The fixed swan neck is another style of permanently attached towbars, however, the swan neck style is much thinner compared to the fixed flange towbar. The fixed swan neck is popular with drivers whose Seat Alhambra’s are fitted with rear parking sensors, as the thin neck provides a larger clearance from where the towbar sits to where the parking sensors are fitted therefore making it less likely to cause a disturbance to the sensors when the Alhambra is in reverse. The fixed swan neck is compatible with all clamp-on style cycle carriers, trailers, and caravans, it is also ALKO compatible meaning that no ALKO towball is required when towing a caravan with an ALKO stabiliser.
The detachable swan neck is the only detachable towbar that we offer for the Seat Alhambra, the towbar neck is removed from its housing using a simple twist and push method. Once the towbar neck has been removed the towbar electrics will flip up underneath the bumper leaving the Seat Alhambra to return to its pre-towbar state. The detachable swan neck towbar is compatible with all clamp-on cycle carriers, trailers, and caravans, it is also ALKO compatible and therefore does not need an ALKO towball fitted when towing a caravan with an ALKO stabiliser.
Will it need a bumper cut?
When fitting any of the three towbars to the Seat Alhambra the towbar engineer will remove the vehicle's bumper during the fitment, however, this will be carefully refitted upon completion of the installation. Due to the design of the vehicle's bumper, a visible bumper cut will be made to the bumper to allow for the towbar to be fitted, however, our informative towbar engineer will visually show you how big this incision will be. If your Alhambra has been altered or it is not fitted with the standard bumper this may mean a larger cut will be made, however, the towbar engineer will always discuss any alterations to your vehicle before beginning the installation.
