Which Towbar is best for my Fiat 500X Crossback?
Three types of towbar are compatible with the Fiat 500X Crossover and are all fantastic for towing, each slightly different from the other with individual benefits, depending upon your requirements.
The Fixed Flange towbar is the cheapest of the three options available and is a permanently fixed towbar meaning it cannot be removed once fitted to your vehicle. The Fixed Flange is usually fitted with a plate which allows you to use bolt-on style accessories, keeping the towball itself free to hitch up your trailer or caravan at the same time. If your caravan has an ALKO stabiliser an ALKO towball will need to be added onto the flange towball in order to make it ALKO compatible. Other accessories are also available such as the ball & pin towball which would enable you to pull a plant trailer or utilise a tow rope for example.
The Fixed Swan Neck style is an extremely versatile towbar and is compatible with ALKO Stabilisers and also fits most clamp-on style cycle carriers. The Fixed Swan Neck design is much thinner in design than the fixed flange, making it less likely to interfere with your parking sensors, should your vehicle have these, although it is permanently fixed to the vehicle, so this cannot be guaranteed.
The Detachable Swan Neck towbar is identical in design to the Fixed Swan Neck, however, the neck of the towbar is detachable, meaning that you can remove the towbar neck when not towing. The electrical plate will also fold up underneath the bumper, removing all visible evidence of a towbar when not in use. The Detachable Swan Neck towbar is also compatible with all clamp-on style cycle carriers, trailers and caravans.
Will it need a bumper cut?
The fitting instructions for the towbars available to the Fiat 500X Crossover does indicate that a bumper cut is required in order to ensure enough clearance for the towbar neck, however, this would be to the underside of the car, and therefore should not be visible.
