More about the Fiat 500L Wagon
One notable towing feature of the Fiat 500L Wagon is its four-wheel independent suspension, which is designed to provide a smooth and stable ride even when carrying heavier loads. The 500L also comes equipped with standard trailer sway control, which helps to mitigate any swaying or instability that may occur when towing.
What's my Towing Capacity?
The towing capacity of the Fiat 500L Wagon is around 1100kg which would be plenty to tow anything from a small caravan or trailer to a cycle carrier. The maximum towing capacity of the 500L could vary with model and trim type, therefore we would always recommend checking your vehicle’s VIN plate, to determine the accurate towing capacity for your specific vehicle.
Which Towbar is best for my Fiat 500L Wagon?
Two types of towbars are available for the Fiat 500L Wagon, both of which are the Swan Neck Style, one being fixed and the other detachable. Both are fantastic for towing and each has its benefits.
The Fixed Swan Neck towbar would be the cheaper of the two options, yet still extremely versatile being readily compatible with ALKO Stabilisers and also fits most clamp-on style cycle carriers. The Fixed Swan Neck design is neat and compact although it is permanently fixed to the vehicle and cannot be removed when not in use.
The Detachable Swan Neck towbar is the only detachable towbar we provide and would always be recommended if your vehicle has parking sensors. This is because, when the tow bar is not in use, you can detach the tow bar neck completely from the vehicle and the electric plate will fold up underneath the bumper, leaving nothing for the vehicle’s sensors to detect when towing is not taking place. Similarly to the Fixed Swan Neck, the Detachable Swan Neck is ALKO compatible, so no extra towballs would be required if your caravan has an ALKO stabiliser. The Detachable Swan Neck is also compatible with a variety of other towing options including most cycle carriers.
Will it need a bumper cut?
When fitting a towbar to the Fiat 500L Wagon the bumper will be removed and there will be a small cut made to the underside of the bumper. This alteration is necessary to give the towbar neck enough clearance but will not be visible from standing behind the car and is likely to only be visible if you are laid looking up to the underside of the vehicle.
