What's my Towing Capacity?
The Toyota Yaris Cross has an average towing capacity of 450 kg, although this is a small towing capacity it would allow the driver to tow a cycle carrier or a small trailer. When choosing what you’d like to tow it is extremely important as overloading the towbar can lead to damage being caused to the vehicle’s chassis, damage to the towbar or the towbar becoming completely unhitched when towing. Which Towbar is best for my Yaris Cross?
There are two types of towbars available for the Toyota Yaris Cross, a fixed swan neck towbar and the detachable swan neck towbar. Both styles of towbars look identical when they are attached to the vehicle’s chassis, however, the main difference is that the detachable swan neck can be disconnected from the towbar housing once towing has been completed.
The detachable swan neck towbar uses a simple twist and push method to detach from the towbar housing, and once detached allows the vehicle to return to its pre-towbar aesthetic. Both styles of towbars are compatible with vehicles equipped with rear parking sensors, their thin design allows for the rear parking sensors to work as intended due to the larger clearance between where the towbar sits and where the parking sensors are fitted.
The swan neck style of towbar is compatible with all clamp-on cycle carriers, trailers and caravans, they are also ALKO compatible meaning they can tow caravans with ALKO stabilisers without needing an ALKO tow ball fitted. For more help in deciding which towbar to pick please take a look at our guides on the different types of towbars.
Will it need a bumper cut?
When fitting a towbar to the Toyota Yaris Cross, a bumper cut will be made to the vehicle's bumper. This cut will be made to the vehicles under the tray, however, if your Toyota Yaris Cross has been modified or is not fitted with a standard bumper this could lead to a larger incision being made. Our talented towbar engineers will always be the fitment by discussing any modifications and answering any questions you may have regarding the fitment.
