What's my Towing Capacity?
The Toyota Corolla has an average towing capacity of around 750KG, this capacity would allow the vehicle to tow a small trailer or cycle carrier. We always advise drivers to check the weight of what they are towing before hitching up as overloading the towbar can lead to damage to the vehicle, or the towbar becoming unhitched and causing a road traffic accident. If you need any assistance with your towing capacity, VIN plate or towing choice please contact our helpful sales team.
Which Towbar is best for my Toyota Corolla?
There are three different towbars available for the Toyota Corolla, the fixed flange towbar, the fixed swan neck towbar, and the detachable swan neck towbar.
The fixed flange towbar is a permanent style of towbar that is attached to the chassis of the vehicle, the chunky style of towbar is fitted with a plate on its rear that allows for towing accessories to be bolted on. The plate allows for bolt-on cycle carriers to be attached to the towbar through the plate therefore leaving the tow ball free to tow. The fixed flange towbar is compatible with all styles of cycle carriers, trailers, and caravans. However, if you are towing a caravan with an ALKO stabiliser an ALKO tow ball would be required before towing.
The fixed swan neck towbar is another permanent style of towbar, although this style of towbar is much thinner compared to the fixed flange towbar. The fixed swan neck towbar is popular with drivers whose Toyota Corolla is equipped with rear parking sensors, as the towbar allows for more clearance between where the towbar is fitted and where the rear parking sensors are situated. The fixed swan neck is compatible with all clamp-on cycle carriers, trailers, and caravans, it is also ALKO compatible and therefore will hitch up to caravans with an ALKO stabiliser without needing an ALKO tow ball.
The detachable swan neck towbar is the only detachable towbar for the Toyota Corolla, the towbar neck easily detaches from the towbar housing using a twist and push method. Once the towbar neck has been detached the towbar's electric socket will flip up underneath the bumper leaving the Toyota Corolla to return to its pre-towbar state. The detachable swan neck towbar is compatible with all clamp-on style cycle carriers, trailers, and caravans, it is also ALKO compatible so wouldn’t require an ALKO tow ball to hitch up to a caravan with an ALKO Stabiliser.
Will it need a bumper cut?
When installing any of the three towbars to the Toyota Corolla Estate a non-visible bumper cut, would be made to the undertray of the vehicle. The bumper cut would be classed as non-visible as it would only be noticeable if you were looking underneath the car. If your Toyota Corolla has been altered and no longer has the standard bumper the towbar engineer may need to make a larger incision to the bumper, however, this will all be discussed before any work commences.
