More about the Volvo C40
The boot capacity of the new Volvo C40 is 414 litres giving you plenty of room for all the family’s luggage with an electrically operated, hatchback-style tailgate, meaning access is practical and more convenient when loading bulkier items, especially with the hands-free opening option.
The Volvo C40 is a straightforward car to drive with smooth, precise acceleration and the raised driving position ensures good visibility down the road. As standard, the C40 also comes with 360-degree parking cameras and sensors; therefore, parking and reversing couldn’t be more straightforward. Other safety features that come as standard include adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist systems, giving you peace of mind when travelling long distances.
What's my Towing Capacity?
The Volvo C40 has an approximate towing capacity of between 1,500 - 1,800 Kilograms. This is a generous capacity for a pure electric car and gives the ability to tow anything from a small trailer to a medium-sized caravan. However, it is always recommended to check your vehicle’s VIN plate for a specific towing capacity.
Which Towbar is best for my Volvo C40?
The Volvo C40 has three different styles of Towbar available; a fixed flange towbar, a fixed swan neck towbar and a detachable swan neck towbar. All three styles of Towbar can be used with trailers and caravans.
The fixed flange towbar is a permanent towbar that cannot be removed when not in use; its short and chunky design allows for a more compact style. The flange style is the only style of Towbar that can be used with all styles of cycle carriers, as it is fitted with a plate that allows for all bolt-on accessories. Vehicles equipped with rear parking sensors are likely to pick up the fixed flange towbar, which can cause some disturbance with the sensors. An ALKO tow ball will be required if you intend to tow an ALKO stabiliser.
The fixed swan neck is an alternative style of permanent Towbar; However, the swan neck style is much thinner meaning, there is less chance of this style disturbing the rear parking sensors due to there being more clearance between the sensors and the towbar neck, although this cannot be guaranteed. The fixed swan neck is compatible with all clamp-on style cycle carriers, trailers and caravans. The fixed swan neck is also ALKO compatible, meaning there would be no need to purchase an ALKO tow ball when towing with an ALKO stabiliser.
The detachable swan neck is the only style of removable Towbar that we offer. The towbar neck is easily removable, leaving the housing underneath the chassis, and the electrical plate will fold up behind the bumper out of sight; this makes the Towbar completely invisible once the neck has been removed. Detachable towbars avoid any issues with parking sensors picking up the towbar neck; therefore, if your car has reverse parking sensors, this would be the best option for you. The detachable swan neck tow bar is compatible with all clamp-on towbars, cycle carriers, caravans and ALKO stabilisers with no need for an ALKO towball.
Will it need a bumper cut?
All three styles of towbars available for the Volvo C40 will require a bumper cut at installation time. However, the incision that will be made will be minimal; and only visible when looking at the vehicle’s undertray. If your C40 has been modified in any way, we would always recommend that you contact our office at 01947 895230, as the bumper cut required may be slightly larger than that of a standard design.
