Towbar Express’ Head Office is nestled in the North Yorkshire Moors, near the beautiful seaside bolt hole, Whitby.
Despite its nationwide status, Towbar Express does everything to help where possible in their own local community.
One of the ways that Towbar Express has assisted the community is by sponsoring the local Football Stadium.
Like many of the smaller clubs throughout the UK, Whitby Town Football Club has struggled throughout the pandemic. The closure of the club during lockdown, social distancing causing limited seating as well as less club members attending the matches, has put pressure on the club’s finances and forward momentum over the past three years.
Whitby Town Football Club was founded under the name Whitby United in 1926 as an amalgamation of two local amateur clubs - Whitby Town and Whitby Whitehall Swifts. The club was accepted into the Northern League for the 1926/27 season, winning its first trophy – the Northern League Cup – in 1929. The Seasiders spent over 70 years at the level before winning back-to-back promotions to the Northern Premier League Premier Division. Despite the difficulties faced over recent years, the club is currently playing at its highest-ever level.
Towbar Express have sponsored the local Club, meaning that their home games are now held at the Towbar Express Stadium at the Turnbull Ground, with a capacity of 2,999. The stadium was opened in 1929 by Wilfred Oswald Turnbull as a gift to the people of Whitby. The Seasiders have played at the ground ever since.
The financial assistance provided by Towbar Express has helped the club enormously, combined with the continued support through their Social Media channels, events and collaborations. The Towbar Express team members do their best to attend their home games and support their local team in the Northern Premier League Premier Division.
Towbar Express will be present at their next annual event, the Gala Day. Hosted at the Towbar Express Stadium on Sunday 24th July. The family-fun day begins at 11.00 am and includes live music, a five-a-side football tournament along with various attractions and stalls.
As well as Gala Day, WTFC will be joining Towbar Express at another local show based in Egton on Wednesday, 24th August. We will be collaborating in some exciting competitions, entertainment for the children, and offering some freebies. They will also be bringing along some of their favourite merchandise to offer and their team mascot!
As the relationship between Towbar Express and Whitby Town Football Club continues to grow, we will increase the support to each other. Towbar Express will do everything they can to provide additional help to keep our local team doing what they do best.
