Tow Trust Towbars

20 March 2023

When it comes to ordering the parts to service your installations, we use a variety of suppliers for both the electrics and the towbar. Our main supplier is Tow Trust, who service 90% of our installation requirements.

About Tow Trust Ltd Tow Trust Towbars

Tow Trust was founded in 1991 by Ian and Elaine Miller, who endeavoured to manufacture high-quality towbars for the local area. The company very quickly outgrew the original premises and relocated to a larger warehouse in Atherton.

One of the main reasons Tow Trust are our leading supplier is the unrivalled high quality of each Towbar received. The manufacturing process has changed a lot over the years with the influx of new technologies, but the attention to detail and high standard of production has remained the same.

The family-run ethos is present throughout their employee base too, with a cheery note at the end of each phone call and a positive attitude when assisting with the few issues that do occur, making them a pleasure to deal with.

How the Towbars are made

The Towbars are cut using lasers, which allow complete precision on every incision made. This means that every Towbar is cut identically and removes the risk of human error. Two neighbouring machines cut both the flat and tubular sections, and this high-tech equipment was the second one ever purchased in the UK.

Following the laser-cutting, the metal is then bent into the required shapes for each make, model, and year of the vehicle. Computer intelligence guides three hydraulic presses as well as a robotic arm to ensure that the correct section of metal is bent to the exact angle required, ensuring every piece is the same as another.

Lastly, a final machine welds on the all-important nuts using a ceramic guide. Each nut is spot welded in the correct position, leaving no room for error at the time of installation.

The separate components are then welded together using a mix of innovative technology and skilled craftsmen. As if glancing into the future, the combination of human and artificial intelligence work together to create the final product, which is then painted by putting on an electronic charge through the paint to attract it to the metal of the bar itself. This technique is called E-Coating and has a 1200-hour salt spray corrosion protection, lasting longer than the powder-coat alternative.

Picking and packing

A careful weighing procedure then checks that all components including the neck, the bar and the nuts and bolts are inside the expertly packed box, ready to dispatch to their customers. If a part is missing at this point, the weight will differ, and a member of the team will investigate to avoid problems following delivery.

Prototypes of the finished products are relentlessly tested by machines that replicate the pushing and pulling that occurs when towing. The Towbars may have the capacity to tow up to 3500kg, so the incredible force is used to ensure that the bar can withstand the pressure over a long period.

Every aspect of the packaging used by Tow Trust is recyclable, including the plastic wrap that secures the box and ensures that nothing goes missing in transit (a common occurrence when shipping heavy Towbars), making choosing a Tow Trust towbar, a sustainable one.

Tow-Trust's careful craftsmanship, innovative technology and attention to detail are all reasons that we use their products time and time again. Our engineers find installing the products as simplistic as can be, with detailed fitting instructions and a technical team full of advice at the end of the phone.
