Love is in the air!

15 February 2023

With flowers still fresh from Valentine's, we are exploring some of the most romantic places to visit in the UK. Weekends away are a brilliant way of rekindling the spark that can be lost in mundane day-to-day life.

Tintagel Castle, Cornwall –

Valentines Towbar

Situated on the tip of England’s furthest corner, Tintagel Castle stands prominently on the dramatic cliffs of Cornwall. The castle sits on its island, separated from the mainland but accessible by man-made steps which connect the walkway. The scene is set by a rugged coastline and stunning scenery, the Cornish castle is rumoured to be the birthplace of King Arthur. A life-size bronze statue of an ancient king named Gallos watches over the turbulent tides below. The Medieval remains of the once mighty structure breathe tangible history, and on a dull day, the island exhales an eerie atmosphere.

Hold your loved one’s hand tight whilst you explore the preserved area, learn about the tales of King Arthur in the visitor centre and enjoy a stroll along the sandy beach to Merlin’s Cave. This secluded section of the UK is one of the most romantic spots for couples to visit in the United Kingdom.

Peak District National Park –

The Peak District is wildly romantic, and an amazing place to visit with your partner especially in August, when the moorlands are coated with vibrant purple heather. The hearty hinterland is known to be the stomping ground of Charlotte Brontes’ Jane Eyre and boasts breathtaking scenery that can be enjoyed by strolling one of the many trails that meander the moors.

The National Park is scattered with quirky cottages that are available to book, picture open fires, red wine, and cosy furniture – what more would you want on a romantic weekend away?

Towbar Fitting BathBath, Somerset –

A city that brims with elegance and tradition, Bath is a well-renowned destination for couples to enjoy. Built for pleasure and relaxation, visitors have travelled to the beautiful area since the Roman times to enjoy the Roman Baths, which give the City its unique name. Bath houses are the only natural thermal springs in Britain, and there is nothing more romantic than a traditional spa experience surrounded by architecture picked from a Jane Austin novel. Wander the cobbles hand in hand and explore the independent boutiques and eateries, making sure to visit The Pump Room for champagne tea overlooking the Roman Baths.

Orford, Suffolk –

One of the prettiest villages on the Suffolk Coast, Orford is a true historical gem. Nestled slightly inland on the Southeast Coastline, this quaint fishing village is made up of stone cottages, traditional pubs and a harbour perfect for strolling. The Medieval Castle was built by Henry II and stands proud above the village, the perfect watchtower for oncoming enemies.

Orford is known for a strange legend, the tale of Orford’s Wildman of the sea. The story tells of a man caught in a fisherman’s net, who was brought to the castle and kept as a prisoner. The man behaved oddly by eating raw fish and not speaking, the tale tells us that he soon escaped and made his way back into the water but still visits the village occasionally.

Ignite your romantic spark by enjoying fresh oysters from the Pump Street Bakery, and head to The Crown and Castle hotel for a cosy drink with castle views – what more could you want for a getaway for two?
