The EC40 supports a maximum braked towing capacity of up to 1,800kg, depending on the model. The VIN plate will confirm the vehicle’s exact capacity and is usually located in the rear-right door frame on the central pillar on Volvo vehicles.
Which Towbar is best for my EC40?
The fixed flange towbar features a flat metal plate where the towball is bolted, allowing for the addition of accessories such as a bumper protector plate between the flange and towball. Known for its exceptional strength and versatility, this design is ideal for towing trailers or caravans, though for ALKO stabilisers an ALKO towball would be required. As the towball is fixed in place, it remains visible at all times and can occasionally interfere with parking sensors on certain vehicles.
The fixed swan neck towbar provides a more compact alternative to the traditional flange design. Formed as a single, curved piece, it integrates the towball and neck for a cleaner appearance and helps minimise the potential for interference with parking sensors. It is compatible with ALKO stabilisers, making it a popular choice for caravan owners.
A detachable swan neck towbar offers the same refined look and robust towing capability as the fixed version, but with added flexibility. The neck section can be easily removed when not needed, allowing parking sensors to be unaffected and maintaining the vehicle’s aesthetics.
Will it need a bumper cut?
