More about the Nissan X-Trail
On the five door model you do get additional space underneath the standard boot meaning it can give even more storage solutions for you and your family.
The Nissan X Trail's 1.3 litre petrol engine is the same as found in its cousin the Nissan Qashqai and although it is heavier its dual-clutch automatic gear box is surprisingly quick to respond which aids its performance giving you the confidence even when towing that its response is second to none. With its soft suspension on a smooth motorway it effortlessly drives without any problems so it lends itself to long drives to get you to your perfect destination.
What is my towing capacity?
The Nissan X-Trail typically can tow up to 2000kg and has a nose weight of 100kg making it the perfect towing vehicle for even larger caravans and horseboxes, it also lends itself to towbar mounted cycle carriers as it has a high nose weight so can easily take E-Bikes. When carry heavy bikes it is important to remember to check your towing weight before getting a towbar fitted, this can be found on your vin plate.
Which towbar to choose?
We offer all three types of towbar, from the fixed flangeball, swan neck, and the detachable swan neck towbar, however, due to the central fog light we would recommend the detachable swan neck otherwise you are obscuring it. Also if you have parking sensors we would also recommend the detachable towbar.
On the detachable swan neck towbar usually the electrics are mounted on a swivel plate but unfortunately, behind the bumper on the Nissan X Trail there is not enough room to have a swivel up socket for the electrics however they sit discreetly at a slight angle on the left-hand side of the towbar housing.

Will a Nissan X-trail need a bumper Cut?
There is a bumper cut listed for your vehicle however it is on the underside of the bumper, as the towbar fits to the mounting points provided by Nissan and to allow the tow ball to sit in the allocated height that is between 350 and 420m. This allows enough clearance between the floor and the neck of the towbar, it also makes the towbar protrude enough to allow you to hitch on what you are towing.
Please note, however, that if you do select the flange ball towbar and you have an Alko Stabiliser, you will need an Alko ball which will give you extra clearance away from the bumper and also you will need to take away any paint on the ball so that it doesn't damage your friction discs built into the stabiliser.
If you are using an Alko Stabiliser, it is often best to use a swan neck style towbar, this can be either the fixed swan neck, or the detachable towbar.
Unfortunately, we cannot fit a towbar to the Nissan X Trail that has been fitted with a rear styling plate with an over rider, as it protrudes further out than the standard bumper so there is not enough clearance to be able to hitch onto the tow ball. Please see the image below that illustrates this style of bumper.
