What's my Towing Capacity?
The new HS is rated up to a maximum braked towing capacity of 1500kg. Please check the vehicle’s VIN plate which is usually located in one of the door frames to confirm the exact rating of your MG HS.
Which Towbar is best for my MG HS?
A fixed flange towbar is a durable, permanently mounted towing option which features a flat metal plate where the towball is securely bolted, allowing for the addition of accessories such as a bumper protector plate or bolt-on cycle carrier between the flange and towball. However, as the towball is permanently attached it remains visible at all times and may occasionally interfere with parking sensors on certain vehicles. For ALKO stabilisers, an ALKO towball would be required.
The fixed swan neck towbar offers a more streamlined and stylish alternative to the flange type. With the towball integrated into a single curved “swan neck” design, it delivers a neater appearance and reduces bulk at the rear of the vehicle. It is compatible with ALKO stabilisers, making it a popular option for caravan owners. While it does not support additional bolt-on accessories, its slim profile helps to minimise potential interference with parking sensors.
A detachable swan neck towbar provides the same elegant, curved design and towing strength as the fixed version but with added flexibility. The neck section can be easily removed when not in use, helping to maintain the vehicle’s clean look and preventing interference with parking sensors. Compatible with ALKO stabilisers, it offers a safe and practical solution for those who want a towbar that can be quickly detached for everyday driving without compromising on performance or reliability.
Will it need a bumper cut?
Towbars for the new MG HS require a non-visible cut to the lower edge of the bumper where it attaches beneath the vehicle. This allows a towbar to be installed with minimal impact on the vehicle’s appearance.
