More about towing with a Mercedes A-Class
The Mercedes A-Class is a premium hatchback that oozes luxury, and even better than that, it is full of innovative features to support the driver through tough driving decisions. The Mercedes A-Class is on hand to provide a stress-free, confident drive every time.
The Mercedes-Benz User experience is just a clever feature that makes the new A-Class more intelligent than previous models. Each time the driver uses the car, the system will learn more about its driver; it will remember favourite radio stations and display them for easy access. It can even show faster routes if the usual route is congested. The MBUX is designed to make everyday driving easier by taking the thinking out of simple actions.
Parking doesn't need to be an issue when taking the A-Class out for a spin; equipped with the Parking Package, it will help navigate the driver into the tightest of spots. The reversing camera provides parking guidelines that will help the driver manoeuvre the vehicle when trying to reverse into the spot. The 180-degree view provides a greater viewing point, and the front and rear sensors will provide caution if the driver ends up too near to another object. The clever system also includes assisted manoeuvring into and out of parallel and end-on parking, which helps take on tricky parking spaces.
The driving assistance package contains a range of highly intelligent features that help the driver feel confident and safe on every journey. The clever system makes driving feel effortless, warns the driver of any danger, and then takes steps to protect if an emergency arises. The Driving Assistance package includes blind spot assist, Active Braking with Cross-Traffic Function, Active Distance Assist Distronic, Active Emergency Stop Assist, Active Speed Limit Assist, Active Steering Assist, PRE-SAGE PLUS and Route-Based Speed Adjustment.

What’s the Towing Capacity of the Mercedes A-Class?
The Mercedes A-Class has an approximate towing weight of 1800KG; however, this does differ between different models. To retrieve an accurate towing capacity for your A-Class, please refer to the VIN plate on your vehicle.
Which Towbar is best for my A-Class?
The Mercedes A-Class can be fitted with three different types of towbars: a fixed flange towbar, a fixed swan neck towbar and a detachable swan neck towbar. Depending on the towing requirement, each Towbar has its own advantages for opting for that style.
The fixed flange towbar is a permanent towbar that cannot be removed from the chassis when towing is completed. This means if your A-Class is fitted with rear parking sensors, there could be some interference when the driver is in reverse. Unlike the other style of towbars, the fixed flange towbar is equipped with a plate at the back of the Towbar that allows for towing accessories to be bolted on. This allows the driver to use the towing accessory simultaneously as using the towball for towing. The fixed flange towbar is compatible with all styles of cycle carriers, trailers, and caravans. If you are towing anything with an ALKO stabiliser, an ALKO towball will need to be fitted beforehand.
The fixed swan neck towbar is another permanent towbar; however, this style of Towbar is a lot thinner than the fixed flange towbar. This means there is less chance of interference with parking sensors when in reverse. The fixed swan neck towbar is compatible with all clamp-on styles of cycle carriers, all trailers, and caravans. There is no need for an ALKO towball if towing anything with an ALKO stabiliser, as the design of the Towbar allows for enough room for the stabiliser to fit.
Finally, the detachable swan neck towbar is a great option if the A-Class has rear parking sensors, as the detachable neck can be removed at the end of towing. This allows the vehicle to return to its original aesthetics meaning the reverse parking sensors can continue to work as intended. The detachable neck can be easily removed using a twist, making removing the towbar neck a simple action. The detachable swan neck towbar is compatible with all clamp-on style cycle carriers, trailers, and caravans. Similar to the fixed swan neck, the detachable swan neck towbar can also be used with all ALKO Stabilisers without the additional ALKO towball.
Will it need a bumper cut?
A visible cut will need to be made when fitting a towbar to the Mercedes A-Class. The dimensions of the bumper cut will be dependent on the style of the bumper. If you have any questions about a modification required for your A-Class, please contact our sales team.
