More about the Maxus eTerron 9

Is the Maxus eTerron 9 Approved to Tow?

Yes — the eTerron 9 is approved for heavy-duty towing, with a braked capacity of up to 3,500kg, matching many diesel pickup equivalents. All our towbars are manufactured and fitted to full European standards, including 94/20/EC type approval. As with any vehicle, always check the exact rating on your car's VIN plate.

What Can the Maxus eTerron 9 Tow?

With dual electric motors, all-wheel drive, and instant torque, the eTerron 9 is built for serious towing work. It's well suited to:

  • Full-size caravans and touring trailers
  • Horseboxes
  • Plant trailers and machinery
  • Livestock and box trailers
  • Boat trailers

Maxus eTerron 9 Towing Capacity

Exact figures depend on your specific trim and the details on your vehicle's VIN plate, but approximate weights are:

  • Braked trailer: approx 3,500 kg
  • Unbraked trailer: approx 750 kg
  • Kerb weight: approx 2,880 kg
  • Payload: 620 kg standard, or 1,050 kg on the Utility trim

Bear in mind that payload and towing capacity are linked — towing at the full 3,500kg limit will significantly reduce how much you can carry in the load bed at the same time. Always confirm the exact combination for your specific vehicle before loading and towing.

Driving Licence Requirements

Towing at higher weights with the eTerron 9 can easily push your combined vehicle and trailer weight over 3,500kg. If this applies to you, you may need a category B+E licence to tow legally, depending on when you passed your test. It's worth checking your entitlement before planning a heavy tow.

Which Towbar Type Is Right for My eTerron 9?

There are three main towbar types to choose from:

  • Fixed flange — the most versatile and robust option, well suited to heavy-duty and commercial towing, and compatible with both tow-and-carry and ball-mounted cycle carriers.
  • Fixed swan neck — a neater shape for towing trailers or caravans, compatible with ball-mounted cycle carriers.
  • Detachable swan neck — the same towing capability as a fixed swan neck, with a towball that unclips and stores away when not in use.

For most eTerron 9 owners using the truck for regular heavy towing, we recommend a fixed flange towbar for maximum strength and reliability. If you tow only occasionally and want to keep the rear styling clean, a detachable swan neck is a good alternative.

Electrics for Your Maxus eTerron 9 Towbar

We fit a dedicated, vehicle-specific wiring loom — not a universal bypass relay — so your towbar electrics integrate correctly with the eTerron 9's onboard safety and lighting systems. A 13-pin electrics kit is recommended for towing a caravan or trailer with additional electrics, giving you power for indicators, brake lights, fog lights, reversing lights, and extras like fridges and reversing cameras.

Towing and Electric Range

As with all electric vehicles, towing will noticeably reduce your driving range. Depending on trailer weight, speed, terrain, and weather conditions, owners can typically expect a 30–50% reduction in range when towing at higher weights, so it's worth planning charging stops accordingly on longer trips.

How do I book a Towbar Fitment?

We know life's busy, so our engineers come to you — home or work, whichever suits. Choose a morning slot between 8am and 12pm, or an afternoon slot between 12pm and 6pm, and we'll fit your towbar at a time that works for you. Fitting typically takes between one and four hours, depending on your vehicle.

Getting a quote is simple: just search for your vehicle above, or enter your registration number and postcode. You can then book your date, time and location online, and we'll take care of the rest — bringing everything needed to complete the job in a single appointment, including any cycle carriers or accessories you've ordered alongside your towbar.
