What's my Towing Capacity?
The Jeep Wrangler has an average towing capacity of around 2,495KG. This capacity will allow the driver to tow anything from a small trailer to a medium-sized caravan. The vehicle's towing capacity can be found on the VIN plate. When deciding on what to tow it is incredibly important to check the weight, as overloading the towbar can lead to damage to the towbar, or the towbar becoming unhitched and causing a road traffic accident. Which Towbar is best for my Jeep Wrangler?
There are two towbars available for the Jeep Wrangler, a fixed flange towbar and a detachable swan neck towbar.
The fixed flange towbar is a permanent style of towbar that is fitted to the vehicle’s chassis, the flange towbar is the only style of towbar that is equipped with a backing plate, this plate allows for towing accessories to be bolted onto the plate. The fixed flange towbar is compatible with all styles of cycle carriers, trailers, and caravans. If you’re planning on towing a caravan with an ALKO chassis, the fixed flange towbar would require an ALKO towball to be fitted before towing. Alko towballs can be found on our website here.
The detachable swan neck towbar is the only style of towbar where the towbar neck can be removed from its housing. The detachable swan neck towbar is popular with drivers whose Jeep Wrangler is fitted with rear parking sensors. the detachable towbar can be easily detached using a twist and push method, once the neck has been detached the towbar electrics will flip up underneath the bumper leaving the Jeep Wrangler to return to its original aesthetic. The detachable swan neck towbar is compatible with all clamp-on style cycle carriers, trailers and caravans. The detachable swan neck towbar is ALKO compatible meaning it can tow caravans with an ALKO stabiliser without requiring an ALKO towball.
Will it need a bumper cut?
When fitting either the fixed flange towbar or the detachable swan neck towbar to the Jeep Wrangler there are no modifications required on models with the standard bumper. If your Jeep Wrangler has had any alterations this could mean a bumper cut could be made at the time of fitment. Our informative towbar engineers will always begin the fitment by discussing the towbar installation, showing any modifications that may be made and answering any questions you may have.
