More about Ford Transit Towbars
The Ford Transit is equipped with the intelligent All-Wheel Drive, so driving in any weather condition is made a whole lot easier. Icy winter roads, muddy access tracks, no matter where you are heading, the All-Wheel Drive is on hand to carefully guide you through and give you the confidence to tackle all terrains.
Safety technology is so important, especially for those heading on busy roads and streets daily; Ford has introduced the Pre-Collision Assist technology to give the driver all the confidence they need to jump into the driving seat. The Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Direction used radar and camera technology to scan the road ahead. If the technology can foresee a collision risk with a vehicle, pedestrian, or cyclist, it will provide the driver with a warning. If the driver doesn't respond in time, the system will automatically apply up to full braking force to eliminate or dramatically reduce the severity of some frontal collisions.
New to the Ford Transit is the Ford Eco guide; the innovative system continually assesses the drivers' driving behaviour on the level of fuel consumption. The system analyses the driving speed, gear shifting, braking and anticipation levels, and the number of short and long journeys being made. This information is then shared back to the driver via the display on the dashboard with the aim to encourage a more efficient driving style. This, in turn, should reduce fuel consumption and help save the driver some money.
What’s the Towing Capacity of the Transit?
The towing capacity on a Ford Transit starts at around 1700KG; due to the different models available, the best method for obtaining an accurate towing weight is by referring to your vehicles VIN plate. The Vin plate can usually be located underneath the vehicle's bonnet or on the passenger side door sill.
Will it need a bumper cut?
No bumper modifications would be required on the standard Ford Transit van when fitting the fixed flange towbar. Although if your van has a modified bumper or is the sport style bumper, modifications may need to be made. If you wish to discuss this further, please contact our sales team, who can discuss this further.
Which Towbar is best for my Transit?
We currently offer the fixed flange style towbar for the Ford Transit Custom. The fixed flange towbar is a permanent towbar that cannot be removed after towing has been completed. Due to the width of the chassis on the Ford Transit, the fixed flange towbar should be compatible with rear parking sensors; however, this is not guaranteed. This style towbar is fitted with a backing plate to the rear of the Towbar that allows for towing accessories to be bolted onto this plate. This is a great option for someone who has a bolt-on cycle carrier or who would like to fit a bumper protector plate to their Towbar. The fixed flange towbar is compatible with all trailers, caravans, and cycle carriers. If your caravan is fitted with an ALKO stabiliser, an ALKO towball would need to be fitted at the time of installation.
