More about the Ford Mondeo Saloon
The Ford Mondeo is renowned by seasoned towers as being a very stable car when towing. The Electronic Stability Control will constantly monitor stability using the ABS and Traction Control Systems and if it detects the vehicle losing grip it will apply the braking system automatically to individual wheels in order to maintain stability, thus giving you peace of mind that you can drive safely even in adverse weather and speed when towing.
What's my Towing Capacity?
The Ford Mondeo’s towing capacity supports up to 1600kg which would allow you to tow anything from a cycle carrier or trailer to a medium-sized caravan. To obtain an accurate towing capacity for your Mondeo, you should always refer to your VIN plate which is fixed to the vehicle itself.
Which Towbar is best for my Ford Mondeo Saloon?
All three styles of towbar that we offer are available for fitment to the Ford Mondeo, these are the Fixed Flange, Fixed Swan Neck and Detachable Swan Neck styles, all of which are great for towing, each with their own specific benefits.
The Fixed Flange towbar is the cheapest option of the three available and is permanently fixed to the vehicle and is fitted with a plate which allows you to use bolt-on style accessories, keeping the towball itself free to hitch up your trailer or caravan at the same time for example. If your caravan has an ALKO stabiliser an ALKO towball will need to be added onto the flange towball in order to make it ALKO compatible.
The Fixed Swan Neck style is an extremely versatile towbar and is readily compatible with ALKO Stabilisers and also fits most clamp-on style cycle carriers. The Fixed Swan Neck design is much slimmer in design than the fixed flange, making it less likely to interfere with your parking sensors, should your vehicle have these, although it is permanently fixed to the vehicle, so this cannot be guaranteed.
The Detachable Swan Neck towbar is identical in design to the Fixed Swan Neck, however, the neck of the towbar is detachable, meaning that you can remove the towbar neck and the electrical plate will fold up underneath the bumper, removing all visible evidence of a towbar when not in use. Just like the Fixed Swan Neck towbar, the Detachable Swan Neck is compatible with all clamp-on style cycle carriers, trailers and caravans too.
Will it need a bumper cut?
The bumper of the Ford Mondeo Saloon and Hatchback will require bumper removal during fitment and also a bumper cut is needed to allow enough clearance for the towbar neck, although this should not be visible as the cut will be done to the underside of the bumper. If the bumper on your vehicle is non-standard or modified in any way, a larger bumper alteration may be necessary, our friendly sales team are able to help with any queries regarding this.
