More about the Ford Mondeo Estate
The range kicks off with the entry-level Style model, then steps up to the popular Zetec model. The middle range continues with the Titanium Edition and then ups its game for the sportier ST-Line, which boasts 18-inch alloy wheels, a sleek body kit, sports suspension, and a gloss back exterior trim.
The Mondeo is a strong contender in its category, and the ride quality in every version is comfortable with great handling. The interior of the vehicle is spacious both in the front and the back, with plenty of leg room and storage space. The Ford Mondeo’s boot is enormous, although it is made slightly smaller in the hybrid version due to the placement of the battery.
The Ford Mondeo is a popular vehicle in the towing world, benefitting from a decent towing capacity as well as the storage to facilitate a large family. Staycations with your bikes or caravan in tow are never out of the question with this vehicle.
What's my Towing Capacity?
The Ford Mondeo has an average towing capacity of around 1000KG to 1600KG, this capacity would allow its driver to tow cycle carriers, trailers, and a small caravan. To find an accurate towing capacity please refer to the vehicle's VIN plate.
Which Towbar is best for my Ford Mondeo Estate?
There are three different towbars available for the Ford Mondeo, the fixed flange towbar, the fixed swan neck towbar, and the detachable swan neck towbar.
The fixed flange towbar is a permanent style of towbar that is fixed to the vehicle’s chassis. The fixed flange towbar is fitted with a plate which allows for bolt-on accessories to attach to the towbar leaving the towball hitch-free. The fixed flange towbar is the only style of towbar that is compatible with all styles of cycle carriers, as well as caravans and trailers. If you intend to tow a caravan with an ALKO stabiliser, the fixed flange will require an ALKO towball to be fitted beforehand.
The fixed swan neck is another style of fixed towbar, however, the swan is much thinner in its design. The fixed swan neck towbar is popular with drivers whose Ford Mondeo is fitted with rear parking sensors. The thin design of the towbar neck offers a lot more clearance between the towbar and the rear parking sensors making it a lot less likely to cause interference with the parking sensors. The fixed swan neck towbar is ALKO compatible and compatible with all clamp-on cycle carriers, caravans and trailers.
The detachable swan neck is identical to the fixed swan neck towbar but with one main difference, the towbar neck can detach from its housing when towing has been completed. The detachable neck is easily removed using a twist and push method, once the neck has been removed the electric socket will flip up underneath the bumper. The detachable neck is the perfect choice for drivers who wish to retain the look of their bumper, as once the towbar neck has been removed the vehicle will return to its pre-towbar state with all traces of a towbar practically invisible. The detachable swan neck towbar is compatible with all styles of clamp-on-cycle carriers, trailers, and caravans.
Will it need a bumper cut?
When fitting a towbar to the Ford Mondeo, a small non-visible bumper cut is made to the vehicle's undertray. This bumper cut would only be visible when looking underneath the vehicle, if your Ford Mondeo does not have a standard bumper or has been modified this could require a larger incision to be made. Our informative towbar engineer will discuss any modifications required for your vehicle's bumper before starting the installation.
