What's my Towing Capacity?
The BMW iX2 can support a maximum braked weight of up to 1,200kg on all wheel drive variants, and 750kg on standard models. Please check the VIN plate, usually located in one of the door frames, to confirm your vehicle’s exact capacity.
Which Towbar is best for my iX2?
The fixed flange towbar is a durable and versatile towing option featuring a flat metal plate to which the towball is securely bolted. This design allows additional accessories, such as a bumper protector plate, to be fitted between the flange and towball. Renowned for its strength and practicality, it’s ideal for towing trailers or caravans. However, for use with ALKO stabilisers, a dedicated ALKO towball is required. As the towball is permanently attached, it remains visible at all times and may occasionally affect parking sensors on some vehicles.
The fixed swan neck towbar offers a sleeker, more compact alternative to the flange design. Formed as a single curved piece, it combines the towball and neck into one streamlined unit, reducing the likelihood of interfering with parking sensors. It is compatible with ALKO stabilisers, making it a preferred option for caravan owners seeking both style and practicality.
A detachable swan neck towbar provides the same smooth design and reliable towing strength as the fixed version but with the added benefit of flexibility. The neck section can be quickly removed when not in use, ensuring parking sensors remain unaffected and the vehicle’s appearance is preserved. This makes it a practical choice for those who want a discreet, easy-to-remove towing solution without compromising performance or safety.
Will it need a bumper cut?
The towbars for the iX2 require a cut to a pre-marked area located on the underside of the bumper. Some models come with an already pre-cut section from factory. This minimises the impact of towbar fitting to the vehicle and helps to maintain the vehicle’s aesthetics.
