What's my Towing Capacity?
The Audi A6 has an average towing capacity of around 2000KG to 2,100KG. This capacity is perfect for hitching a cycle carrier, trailer and up to a medium-sized caravan. We always advise to checking the weight of what you are planning to tow as overloading your towbar can result in damage to the vehicle, towbar and in extreme situations can cause the load to unhitch. To be able to check the towing capacity for your own Audi A6 please refer to the VIN plate that is located either under the bonnet or passenger door sill.
Which Towbar is best for my Audi A6?
There are three different towbars available for the Audi A6, A fixed flange towbar, a fixed swan neck towbar and detachable swan neck All three of the towbars are compatible with trailers, clamp-on cycle carriers and caravans. The fixed and detachable swan neck towbar are both ALKO compatible, meaning that no ALKO ball is required when towing a caravan with an ALKO stabiliser. The fixed towbar is the only style of towbar that requires an ALKO towball, however, if this is discussed at the time of booking this can easily be fitted at the same time as the towbar fitment.
The fixed flange towbar is the only style of towbar that is fitted with a fixed plate on the rear of the towbar, the plate allows for towbar accessories to be bolted onto the towbar. This would allow for the driver to tow using the towball and bolt on the towball accessories at the same time.
Will it need a bumper cut?
When fitting a towbar to the Audi A6 the bumper would need to be removed throughout fitment but will be refitted upon the completion. A small bumper cut is made to all the standard models of the Audi A6. The bumper cut will be made to the undertray of A6, and therefore will be invisible unless looking at the bumper face on.
