More about the Audi A4
When driving the Audi A4, all passengers can be confident that the clever Driver Assistance Technology is available to guide the driver through every challenging situation. Whether manoeuvring into a tight space or needing extra vision when driving at night, the A4 is guaranteed to make the driver feel safer and more confident, providing everyone with a sense of ease during every journey.
Now more than ever, people are enjoying the British weather and opt to holiday around the UK, making it even more important to feel safe when towing a caravan on the roads. With Audis' Trailer Manoeuvre Assist technology, drivers and passengers can be confident with every turn they make. The technology does what it says on the tin; it assists the driver and makes it easier to manoeuvre when in reverse with a trailer/ caravan. At the push of a button, the driver can adjust the angle at which the trailer should be back up, and an image from the rear-view camera will appear on the monitor providing lines as a guide to manoeuvring.
Driving at night can be pretty daunting, so Audi has created Night Vision Assist to provide confidence when going for a spin in the dark. The technology uses an infrared camera that reacts to heat given off by objects; it ranges up to 300 metres and can detect people and larger wild animals at distances between 10-90 metres. A warning sound is played if a hazardous situation is detected, and a warning system appears in the instrument cluster and the head-up display. This allows the driver to concentrate on the directions rather than potential risks and reduces the risk of night-time collisions.
What's my Towing Capacity?
The Audi A4 has an approximate towing weight of around 1600KG to 2100KG. The best way to check for an accurate towing weight for your Audi A4 is by referring to the vehicle's VIN plate, which is located underneath the bonnet or on the passenger door sill.
Which Towbar is best for my Audi A4?
Several options are available when picking a towbar for the Audi A4, meaning you can tailor your Towbar to your specific needs.
The fixed flange towbar is a permanent towbar that cannot be removed at the end of towing; this style of Towbar is chunky in design, meaning it may not be the best option if your vehicle is equipped with rear parking sensors. The fixed flange towbar is fitted with a backing plate that allows the driver to bolt on towing accessories to the plate freeing up the tow ball for towing. The fixed flange towbar is compatible with all cycle carriers, trailers and caravans. However, if you are towing anything with an ALKO stabiliser, an ALKO towball will need to be purchased separately.
The fixed swan neck is another permanent towbar that cannot be removed at the end of the towing. However, the fixed swan neck towbar is much thinner in its design, which means it is less likely to interfere with parking sensors when the vehicle is in reverse. The fixed swan neck is compatible with all clamp-on style towbars, trailers, and caravans. An ALKO tow ball is not required when towing with an ALKO stabiliser, as the fixed swan neck is long enough to attach to the hitch.
The detachable swan neck is the only style of Towbar that can be removed once towing has been completed; it uses a twist-and-push method (similar to a medicine cap) and allows the driver to remove as when it is needed. The detachable swan neck has a lock and keys to protect the Towbar from theft. All clamp-on style cycle carriers, trailers and caravans can be used with the detachable swan neck, and there is no need to purchase an ALKO tow ball when using an ALKO stabiliser.
Will it need a bumper cut?
The Audi A4 requires a bumper cut when fitting any towbar to your vehicle; the modification will be made to the vehicle's undertray. The bumper cut will be classed as non-visible as it will only be noticeable when looking underneath the car at the undertray. Further modifications may be required if your Audi A4 has been modified or isn't the standard bumper.
